Experience with BMS networks managed by IT
Hi,I always try to keep the BMS network separate. Sometimes, I cannot. What could be the reason we cannot see any BAcnet devices on a managed network as per your experience?
Many thanks

IT says they have not just 47808 open but all ports open. Its us, not them. And then after a week of us troubleshooting they find actually theres closed ports in multiple spots. Oops.

That`s what I am thinking. I `ve asked them to open the port 47808 on all ports. It`s been 2 days now. They said all ports are open…Not sure if that`s correct. Just thinking if there is a software able to test which port is open….
both devices you are trying to connect are on the same subnet? I.E. the first 3 groups of numbers are the same? i.e. device 1 = 111.222.333.XXX and device 2 = 111.222.333.YYY? You can also much things up if your have vlans and your mask is something other than a whole octet (i.e a vlan with only 128 or 64 devices allocated to it)
Yes, all devices are on the same subnet. Even on yabe, i cannot see the devices.
1. Id make sure the device is setup up right. Id probably set my laptop as whatever IP the Jace or server is, and plug directly into the device, make sure it discovers over BACnet ip with YABE or a testing Niagara Station on your laptop.
2. Verify patch cable or whatever is good that goes to the network from the device with a tester, or unplug from network and and repeat step 1.
3. Ask permission – If possible plug your self into the network cable, with the address of the device or have them assign you an IP based on your Mac into that same vlan, and see if you can scan/find other devices across the network.
Ask permission again – Ive used angry IP scanner software to see what devices I can talk to and to see what ports are being filtered/blocked by running it on my laptop or on the server. Or ask IT to do that.
When plugged in with my laptop I can see all devices on the IP network. When using the Yabe software I can only discover one BACnet device.I want to make sure it has nothing to do with my controller settings. Do all BACnet devices broadcast automatically their address.
One test I need to try is to put them on an unmanaged network and see if I can see them…

WTF do you mean by “see” exactly? You plug your laptop in and the screen transforms to a birds eye cutaway of the building with your devices all geographically placed on the floor plan with happy faces? What have you tried exactly that works and what exactly is failing with BACnet? Can you ping these devices? Do they have internal web pages that you tested and work. Does your programming tool work, just not BACnet? Details FFS! Its pulling teeth for info to even begin to help with everyone of your posts….
They could be blocking UDP broadcasts at the switch level for all you know.
