  • Can anyone explain The Cloud to me ?

I had an IT guy erase a lot of written documents – because as he later said: Oh emails? They’re all gone – they aren’t documents. Who would want them?

BTW: all his horseshit did not fix the computer problems.

Someone was just saying, to me, something like: ‘everything in on The Cloud and . . . (blah, blah, blah; some other stuff)

Is that accurate? Might all my now-deleted emails actually be ‘on the cloud’ somewhere?

And if so; how can they be found?

And if found; how might they be retrieved?

Anybody know how this all works?

  • I don’t understand much when it comes to desk top computers but I came up with this.
    https://howtosguru.com/how-do-i-retr…otmail-emails/

I don’t store any emails on my phone because that would be a waste of space. My understanding of the cloud is basically on my Gmail account I have an allowance of 15gigabytes of storage and that is stored on the internet and as long as I have internet I can access it.

I’m tired of these mediocre “semi flammable” refrigerants. If we’re going to do it let’s do it right.

Unless we change direction we are likely to end up where we are going.

  • Yes; but how does it work? Does it save everything forever? Or until you delete it from the cloud?

Or does it sync with the computer from which all the emails were deleted – with the result that all the stored-in-the-cloud data is erased so it matches the computer?

Well quite frankly I don’t know what you are using so I don’t know. What do you use to view your emails?

I view my emails using the Gmail app which doesn’t store anything on my phone so there is nothing to delete unless I want to free up my cloud storage.
I get the idea that your email app or program is quite a bit different than mine.

It depends upon the platform and the app youÂ’re using. Because most back-ups IÂ’ve tried on my PC do not delete in the cloud what IÂ’ve deleted on my desktop, I have quit using them. I back-up only to USB hard drives. iPhone otoh does remain synched so I use iCloud and pay for extra storage space. Pretty sure yahoo and google can restore emails that were generated on their platforms by request.

  • I’m sure you can go knock on the front door of the Data Center in Utah and they will give it back to you………

You can stop in and see “slctech”, and have a cocktail while you are there.

Instead of learning the tricks of the trade, learn the trade.

  • Hey rundawg, does that make yours the second largest date center in the world 🤔

  • Run for president…they’ll find them, or become a celebrity, TMZ will find them.

I don’t trust ‘the cloud’ for shit. I back up everything on my own, important stuff in 2 places.
For the very reason you just unfortunately discovered.
And something else almost no one does, back up your operating system when you get a new computer, make start up disc/drives. In the event of a total failure, I can get a new computer, put my programs on it, and retrieve my data, and be back up and running rather quickly.

If I do a job in 30 minutes it’s because I spent 30 years learning how to do that in 30 minutes. You owe me for the years, not the minutes.

I absolutely agree. How quickly has some darling company gone from profitable to bankruptcy? A datacenter has to make a profit, or ‘pfffft’ – where’s the data????

What email service do you use?

  • The “cloud” is just a fancy name for storing your data and files on someone elses hardware that you access via the internet.
